I’ll Take Care Of Myself
This is the first article of my blog, which starts now, while I’ve released my new single, I’ll Take Care Of Myself, the first step of my new project, Soultrip, the EP that will be released in July.
In this blog I’m going to tell you more about me, my music, my old and current inspirations, thoughts and different suggestions… a sort of diary to share with you all. I decided to start from I’ll Take Care Of Myself, giving you a closer look on this tune, how, when and why I wrote it.
I couldn’t feel anymore like someone else’s shadow, I was tired of going round in circles and not facing the real issue: feeling important. With this song I wanna share what I’ve learned: in order to love someone else in a healthy way, you need to be able to take care of yourself and choose the best for you, without the fear of loosing someone.
I’ll Take Care Of Myself it’s a song I wrote for all the people that faced or are facing one of the toughest life lessons to embrace and accept: taking care of yourself.
I understood that in order to love someone and be able to build a healthy relationship, I needed to
learn how to love and respect myself. This is the starting point, the place where I began to ‘dip
my hands into my soul’ and reach this different awareness. That helped me realizing, understanding
and accepting my weaknesses.
This is the reason why I chose to show a naked picture of me in the artwork of the single, a picture
where you are able to see vitiligo, a rare skin disease which I suffer from and which has been the
reason why I got bullied a lot in high school.
I had lost trust in myself. Now I can say I started to see it as a distinctive and
characteristic aspect of my personality, a strenght.
I’ll Take Care Of Myself is an electro/pop song; I decided to totally change my genre but I did it
gradually. Also this is part of my personal journey, finding who I am and who I wanna be. I started
with a Soul/Pop/Funk vibe, then researched different sounds and contaminated it with electronic
modern sounds. In my musical research, I fell in love with two UK born artist: Sam Smith and Jess
Glynne. I always liked Sam Smith the way he tells his stories is simple and direct, no metaphors, pure and raw emotion. Jess Glynne’s twist in arranging songs it’s what really got me about, 80’s vibes with massive backing vocals and horn sections combined with electronic modern sounds.
I normally songwrite on the piano so I wanted to experiment with the electro/pop
world and I really enjoyed it from an artistic point of view and it’s also been great fun.
Also was really exciting working with Marco Casaluce, a young Italian producer, who lives in
London, finding those sounds that I had in mind for the arrangement of the track.
Hope you enjoyed the little journey who brought me to I’ll Take Care Of Myself.
This are the lyrics:
I SAW YOU STEPPING OUT OF MY LIFE
I CAN’T PRETEND YOU WERE MAKING ME DIE
I’M NOT A PUPPET I CAN’T LIVE LIKE THIS
YOU CAN BE THE RULER, CAREFUL, ‘CAUSE YOU HIT & MISS
I LOOK AROUND AND ALL I CAN SEE
IS YOUR SHADOW BEHIND ME
I CAN’T BREATH, I CAN’T SPEAK
THIS IS YOUR DESTROYING TECHNIQUE
ROUND AND ROUND AND ROUND WE GO
TO FILL THIS EMPTY GAP INSIDE OUR SOUL
RUNNING RUNNING RUNNING TILL WE REACH THE GOAL
EVEN WHEN IT DOESN’T MATTER ANYMORE
AND I’M NOT
I’M NOT THE ONE NIGHT STAND
PLEASE STOP TO PRETEND THAT OUR LOVE IS SO STRONG
AND THAT NOTHING, NOTHING CAN GO WRONG
AND I’M NOT, I’M NOT A LOOSING GAME
BUT FROM LOVE I JUST CAN’T REFRAIN
I PROMISE MYSELF I WON’T DO THAT AGAIN
I SWEAR, I’LL TAKE CARE OF MYSELF
I’LL TAKE CARE OF MYSELF (X3)
NOW THAT EVERYTHING SEEMS ALRIGHT
I SEE THINGS CLEAR, I SEE THEM BRIGHT
I CHANGED MY MIND,
ONLY RELEASE INSIDE
ROUND AND ROUND AND ROUND WE GO…
AND I’M NOT…
ROUND AND ROUND AND ROUND
RUNNING RUNNING RUNNING
SAY ROUND, SAY ROUND
AND I’M NOT, I’M NOT A LOOSING GAME…
If you want you can listen to it on Spotify or buy it on iTunes.
